Curry Barker's 'Anything But Ghosts' Set for May 7, 2027

Focus Features and Blumhouse-Atomic Monster have dated Curry Barker's horror-comedy "Anything But Ghosts" for May 7, 2027. Focus holds worldwide rights to the film, with Universal Pictures International handling international distribution.

Barker directs and co-wrote the script with Cooper Tomlinson, his "Obsession" star and longtime collaborator. The two also lead the cast, appearing alongside Violet McGraw, Chris Reinacher, Bryce Dallas Howard and Aaron Paul.

The official logline reads: "When a group of fame-seeking wannabe 'ghosthunters' find themselves in over their heads, things spiral wildly and terrifyingly out of control."

Roy Lee, Steven Schneider, Jason Blum, Adam Hendricks and Greg Gilreath produce. Executive producers include Daniel Bekerman, Barker, Tomlinson and Ben Ross. Blumhouse-Atomic Monster, Spooky Pictures and Divide/Conquer produce the film in association with Image Nation and That's a Bad Idea.

The release marks a decisive step up for a filmmaker who arrived with one of the summer's biggest box office stories. Barker's debut, the supernatural horror "Obsession," grossed $519 million worldwide against a budget of less than $1 million. It galvanized the Gen Z moviegoing population and posted a 39% jump in earnings in its second weekend — a feat rarely achieved in the current box office climate.

"Obsession" also drew critical acclaim and early Oscar buzz for Inde Navarrette, who co-starred with Michael Johnston, Megan Lawless and Tomlinson. The film follows Bear (Johnston), a hopelessly lonely young man who uses a mysterious toy called a "One Wish Willow" to make his crush, Nikki (Navarrette), fall for him. The wish goes terribly wrong, with bloody consequences for Bear, Nikki and their friends.

With "Anything But Ghosts," Barker moves from micro-budget supernatural horror to a studio-distributed comedy backed by Blumhouse-Atomic Monster, with a cast led by Bryce Dallas Howard and Aaron Paul. The May 2027 date will test whether the audience that turned "Obsession" into a phenomenon follows him into broader genre territory.
