Michael Che Returns to Netflix With Third Special 'Shot in Minnesota'

Michael Che will premiere his third Netflix stand-up special, "Shot in Minnesota," on Oct. 13. Che directed the hour himself and executive produces it with Matthew Vaughan for Rotten Science.
The special was taped at First Avenue in Minneapolis, the storied venue at the center of the city's music scene. It arrives just weeks after the Season 52 premiere of "Saturday Night Live," where Che returned to the "Weekend Update" desk for his 13th consecutive year alongside Colin Jost.
A newly released clip from the special shows Che training his sights on his longtime "SNL" partner and Jost's wife, Scarlett Johansson. The bit hinges on Jost's apparent obliviousness to his own good fortune.
"You know what really bothers me about Colin being married to Scarlett Johansson? It's that he acts like it's normal. Isn't that fucking annoying? He acts like it's not a miracle," Che says in the clip.
He continues: "Sometimes he'll call me and be like, 'Hey man, we're having dinner at the house … we could do a double date thing.' I'm like, 'I can't bring the women that I date to Scarlett Johansson's house.' I don't need her calling my phone like, 'Hey, I think your date stole our silverware.' … I thought I heard her jingling in the Uber."
"Shot in Minnesota" follows two previous Netflix hours from Che: "Michael Che Matters" in 2016 and "Michael Che: Shame the Devil" in 2021. The new special keeps him on a roughly five-year cadence with the streamer, even as his "SNL" commitments have intensified.
Che remains best known for "Weekend Update," but his comedy portfolio extends beyond Studio 8H. He created and starred in the sketch series "That Damn Michael Che," which ran for two seasons on HBO Max. Before joining "SNL," he had a brief stint as a correspondent on "The Daily Show."
With "Shot in Minnesota," Che adds a director credit to his stand-up résumé for the first time on Netflix, signaling a fuller authorial hand over his recorded work. The Oct. 13 premiere positions the special as a late-year release in Netflix's comedy slate, arriving mid-season for the show that made him a household name.
